A Deep Hole is a short story written by Ian Rankin. Their are some very interesting characters in this story including the narrator, Sam the Spade and Daintry are basically the characters the story circles around. Daintry is a money lender, and when people do not pay him back during the specific amount of time he gives them, or if he wants something from someone, he kills the person. Sam tells us the story when Daintry wanted him to get rid of a body, in other words, a package and Sam explains all the troubles he goes through, with seeing the cops everytime and most of the holes where he was meant to dump the body are all filled up. There are a lot of suspense instances in this short story, ex everytime the cops come around, or when Sam is bent on killing Daintry to make sure he doesn’t kill his mother. I think Rankin was able to make Sam’s narrative so life like you could sort of feel like what he was thinking and his emotions during every event.
